Iiyama in Winter dotted with Igloos
Outside of liyama is "the Kamakura (Igloo) Village" dotted with some 20 igloos which are exhibited for two months from January to February. The light is lit at night and it creates a fantastic atmosphere.
A delicious addition to the visit of The Kamakura Village is a local dish called "Noroshi Nabe" (hot pot dish). This is a Shinshu miso hot pot with various locally grown vegetables.
Kamakura Shrine
In the depths of Kamakura no Sato, which is the silver world, the red torii of “Kamakura Shrine” stands. Inside each igloo, there is also a small shrine with an offering box, all of which represents a full-fledged shrine.

Iiyama Yutaki Onsen At the Yutaki Onsen, you can enjoy the fantastic view of the Chikuma River while being soaked in the outdoor bath. After taking the bath, you can try the local "purple rice sasazushi (sushi wrapped with fresh bamboo leaves)" prepared by the village grandmas. the trees by a thaw, and the fresh green sends out buds. |
Togari Onsen Only one-minute walk from the Togari Skiing Area are two hot springs "Akatsuki and Nozomi," both of which are called Togari Hot Springs. The outdoor bath where quiet scenery spreads through is popular and is most suitable for refreshing yourself after the outdoor activities. |

Madarao Kogen Onsen This hot spring is housed in the Madarao Highlands Hotel located approximately 1,000 above sea level. Its chloride spring with reddish tinge is reputed for its fair skin effect. |
Iiyama Snow Festival
liyama Snow Festival, the well-known winter event of the region, draws more than 50,000 visitors each year. The snow statues of various sizes carved by the local elementary, junior and senior high school students are exhibited throughout the town of liyama. During the Festival period, the Snow Sculpture Contest is held, the portable snow shrines are carried around, the live music shows, the walk rally in the snow, and other unique events welcome the tourists. In the nighttime, electric lights and snow lanterns illuminate the streets, which make liyama "the Snow and Temple City."
Skiing Resort
liyama is often referred to as "the Winter Sports Kingdom of Shinshu District." Good quality powder snow attracts the skiers and snowboarders from all over the country.
Togari Onsen Skiing Resort Intricate ridges of the mountains provide interesting and challenging courses for skiers of all levels. At the rest houses and hotels, the local speciality dish of "Togari Apple Pork" using Myuki pork and Shinshu apples is served. |
Iiyama Hokuryu Onsen Family Skiing Area It is the skiing area where two slopes range to the Hokuryu Lake. A course for beginners and intermediate skiers provides chances for fun and basic training for every member of a family. |
Madarao Kogen Skiing Area Skiers of all levels can enjoy various courses covered with powder snow. There is also an excellent skiing spot for small children with guards watching over them all the time when the area is open. |
